Fragmented Fave: Maxwell Loren Holyoke-Hirsch

I love the way Maxwell Loren Holyoke-Hirsch draws. Although his pieces are oftentimes a mixture of drawing, collage and gouache, it is the drawings within them that give his work their undeniable energy and exquisite textures. I love all the layers of pencil within his pieces and the rawness of them. They're simply wonderful... it's as if he tore some pages out of his sketchbook and decided to share them with the world. Lucky us!

Looking through his work makes me want to go pick up a pencil and draw. This might sound silly, but I don't draw in pencil very often - and I haven't used gouache in years. Maybe one of these days I'll be able to bring myself to try gouache & pencil again. Right now I'm gonna keep enjoying my new pens.

The top piece above, called "Star Mapper", is available as a limited edition print on his online shop.
