things that caught my eye (part one)

We're back from vacation and we had a great time. It was great to hang out with friends and family without any plan or schedule to adhere to. Coming back and looking at all the pictures I took, it's really hard to capture everything we did and saw so I thought I'd show some tidbits. First up is some of the great art that caught my eye (click on the above image for a better view) . My friend Jimmy had a show that opened at Lunar Boy Gallery on Oct 13. The opening went really well. We ended up getting the piece pictured above (yahoo!). While in Portland visiting Tess and Jim, Jake and I went to the Portland Art Museum with Tess and saw a whole bunch of great stuff. The Chuck Close exhibit was amazing and showcased his various printmaking techniques, the extensive planning behind the prints as well the final prints. Wow. This was my first trip to the museum and I was really impressed. Leonard Baskin's work was absolutely exquisite and eerie and featured pieces done in pen & ink, etching and lithography. Just beautiful.
